Iain is an internationally recognised expert on pensions and retirement savings, most notably on retirement decision-making, pension fund investment, infrastructure investing, sustainable pension systems, trustee governance, and fund management costs and fees.

A central feature of Iain’s research is its real-world relevance and application and it has been used by organisations including, The CERN Pension Fund, The City of London Corporation, The Work Foundation, The Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association, The Office for National Statistics, and the Financial Conduct Authority.

Iain is also part of the newly established £10m UK Centre for Greening Finance and Investment (CGFI).

CGFI is a national centre established to accelerate the adoption and use of climate and environmental data and analytics by financial institutions both nationally and internationally. The work of the centre will unlock opportunities for the UK to take the lead globally in greening finance and financing green. In CGFI Iain is leading on the development of commercialisation and innovation hubs in Leeds and London (with Imperial College) and the development of climate and environmental analytics for pensions and asset management
